...Strong southeast winds expected across the mountains until
midnight tonight...
.A deep low pressure system will slowly progress from western
Tennessee today toward the mid-Atlantic. A tightened pressure
gradient between this system and high pressure over the Atlantic
will produce very gusty east to southeasterly winds across the
higher terrain of North Carolina, into far southwest Virginia and
southeast West Virginia through midnight Tuesday.
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT...
* Locations...North Carolina High Country, Grayson Highlands, the
higher terrain of Tazewell and Smyth County Virginia, into
southeast West Virginia.
* Hazards...Strong southeast winds.
* Winds...Southeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* Timing...Until midnight. Peak wind gusts will occur this
afternoon into early evening.
* Impacts...These winds could down smaller trees and limbs,
especially as soils become saturated from prolonged moderate
rainfall. Isolated power outages are possible. High profile
vehicles will find it difficult to maneuver at times.

...Flooding Possible During a Prolonged Heavy Rain Event...
.A deep low pressure system will slowly progress from western
Tennessee today across the mid-Atlantic by Wednesday morning. This
system will promote very strong southeasterly winds that will
rapidly draw Atlantic moisture westward across the crest of the
Blue Ridge in northern North Carolina and southern Virginia. In
this region, rainfall totals of three to four inches area
expected, possibly with locally higher amounts.
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING
THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON...
The Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of North Carolina and southwest Virginia, including
the following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe,
Surry, Watauga, and Wilkes. In southwest Virginia, Carroll,
Floyd, Grayson, and Patrick.
* From 8 AM EDT this morning through Tuesday afternoon
* Prolonged heavy rainfall totaling three to four inches with
locally higher amounts possible.
* Flooding of small streams and creeks, small rivers and in poor
drainage areas.
