Daytime Showers

Happy Friday! I wish I had a better forecast to start the weekend. On the bright side, while it may start on a low note today, tomorrow we'll experience a rapid turnaround. Rain showers are expected to continue into this afternoon. On top of that, we will be notably cooler & more windy than yesterday. Clouds will start to decrease, giving way to clearer skies and a calmer evening. Saturday and Sunday look great as scattered clouds and breezy winds are the only things to worry about.

Merlefest continues today and runs through Sunday. In 4 days, you can see: The Avett Brothers, Sam Bush, Wynonna Judd, Brandi Carlile, Steep Canyon Rangers, Amos Lee, Keb Mo, Dailey and Vincent, Scythian, Radney Foster, Kruger Brothers, Chatham County Line, The Waybacks, and nearly 100 other great artists. Weather...Showers will be ending during the afternoon, followed by dry weather for the rest of the festival. See our Hourly Forecast for Details.

Forecast Discussion

A cold front arrives this morning and will blaze through as quickly as it arrived. Rain showers are expected mostly in the daytime with clouds starting to decrease by this evening. Thunderstorms will be possible as well. Overall, today will be rainy, cooler, and breezy.

Looking ahead to the weekend, it is a rather welcome sight minus a breezy Saturday. A weak cold front approaches late Sunday night, but is blocked by a ridge of high pressure from the Western Atlantic. Being in close proximity to said front, a sprinkle or two can not be ruled out Saturday night.

A ridge high pressure over our region takes shape for the first half of next week. Temperatures respond accordingly as the days get progressively warmer. Monday and Tuesday, are both expected to be dry. However, Wednesday and Thursday are a different story. Isolated pop-up showers could be in the the mix thanks to daytime heating for those days.
