.Low pressure will move from the Gulf Coast States Wednesday
evening to west of the southern Appalachians Thursday morning. A
secondary low will form along the southeast coast during this
time lifting north to the Delmarva by Thursday evening.
Precipitation amounts of one and a quarter to 2 inches will be
possible during this time. That combined with already saturated
soils and elevated streams and river levels may lead to flooding.

The Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of North Carolina and Virginia, including the
following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe,
Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and
Yadkin. In Virginia, Carroll, Charlotte, Floyd, Franklin,
Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania.
* From Wednesday evening through Thursday evening
* 1 to 2 inches of rain on already saturated soils, and with
some rivers still elevated, could lead to more flooding,
Wednesday night through Thursday.
* Streams and creeks, along with main stem rivers, may flood.

.Low pressure over the Gulf Coast will stay west of the
Appalachians Wednesday night into Thursday, while another low
forms off the coast of South Carolina. At the same time, cold
high pressure will wedge southward into our area keeping
temperatures at or below freezing at and near the surface. This
will result in a threat of freezing rain and sleet Wednesday
night into Thursday.
...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING
THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow
accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of
around one half of an inch possible.
* WHERE...From the Blue Ridge foothills, Roanoke Valley, mountains
of northwestern North Carolina westward to the Mountain Empire
and Mercer County.
* WHEN...From Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Power outages and tree damage are likely
due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
