Connecting With Your Local Farmer

Sunday, September 26th, 12-4:30PM Bring friends and family and get ready to get your hands dirty! Join us this afternoon for the opportunity to connect and learn from a local farmer in our area. We will begin with a short yoga practice accessible to all levels followed by hands-on help working with the farmer in the fields. Karma Krew is a non-profit organization that aims to expand the teachings and practices of yoga off the mat and into the community.

New River Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Education Seminars

New River Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team will be leading several seminars at the Watauga County Project on Aging which are open to everyone, including professionals as well as family caregivers.

FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS FOR OLDER ADULTS IN WATAUGA COUNTY

The Watauga County Project on Aging and Watauga Medical Center will be offering free health screening clinics to residents of Watauga County aged sixty and older. The clinics will be held at the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center in Boone on Thursday, July 15 and Thursday, September 9. Screenings will also be held at the Western Watauga Community Center on Thursday, August 19 and Thursday, October 21. Persons aged 60-64 with no insurance are encouraged to participate in a screening and will be given priority if necessary.

Farmers Market at Lees-McRae College

LOCAL, a student group at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk will be hosting a weekly Monday evening farmers market from 5-7pm throughout the growing season. The first Market is on June 14th, and will be located on the large lawn adjacent to Main Street Banner Elk. Any proceeds generated will be used for service learning at the college. Please come out and support the Avery County farmers!

The Knob (3rd Race in the High Country Triple Crown

The High Country Triple Crown is the premier running series in the High Country of North Carolina. In existence for five years and headquartered in Boone, NC, the Triple Crown consists of three races of varying difficulty and terrain. All races showcase the breathtaking scenery of the NC mountains coupled with the vitality of the local community. Formerly managed by the High Country Soccer Association, the High Country Triple Crown has taken a new direction and is now affiliated with the Appalachian State University Institute for Health and Human Services. Beginning in 2010, 100% of the proceeds from the race series will benefit Girls on the Run of the High Country.
